Gaya/Bhagalpur, March 29: A nephew of Suman Barnwal — a tourist from Jharkhand who was allegedly raped and killed on Sikandra-Sheikhpura road on March 25 — today claimed that he could identify one of the assailants.

The 11-year-old boy told reporters and police in Gaya that he had seen the assailants and would be able to identify one of them.

Gaya city superintendent of police (SP) Baburam said following the boy’s revelation, a team of cops from Gaya took him, his mother, father, grandmother and his father’s cousin to Lakhisarai for interrogation.

At the time of filing this report, they were on their way to Lakhisarai.

Once they reach the town, the criminals nabbed by Jamui police would be paraded in front of Ankit.

The 26-year-old woman was killed when a gang of criminals waylaid her and her family when they were returning from Gaya to Jharia in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district via Jamui.

Suman’s nephew was one of the occupants of the SUV that the criminals had targeted.

He husband had alleged that the police did not admit the FIR on time.

Suman’s brother, Rajesh, had yesterday accused that her husband, Naresh, had killed he because he was having an affair with their cousin, a final-year college student.

He also accused that his sister had been killed over a land dispute.

The father of the girl, who was accused of having an affair with Naresh, today rubbished the allegation. He, however, admitted that Suman’s husband used to visit their home.

Baburam said the cousin and her father had approached him with their clarification but he had referred the matter to Lakhisarai police.

The cops, however, remained tight-lipped and refused to share any information.

Taking exception to the delay in lodging of an FIR in the murder of Suman, the state human rights commission has already issued a notice to the Bihar police chief and directed him to submit a report about the delay in instituting of the case.

The notice also sought to know from the top cop if any action was being taken against the erring officials.

Policemen allegedly took over 12 hours to register a case due to different views regarding jurisdiction.

Police in Lakhisarai also remained tightlipped about the progress of the probe. Lakhisarai superintendent S. Premlata, who had suspended Halsi police station house officer, could not be contacted.

A senior police officer said sub-divisional police officer Rajvansh Singh had been deputed to bring Rajesh, along with the deceased’s father, to the town.

Another police team has been assigned to bring Naresh to Lakhisarai for investigation.
