Patna, Oct. 9: A tragic closure descended on Atulya Chakravorty on Thursday as tests confirmed a skeleton recovered from a drain two years ago was of his daughter Navruna Chakravorty.
Atulya and his wife had been running from pillar to post for justice ever since their daughter, then a Class VII student, went missing from her Muzaffarpur house on September 18, 2012.
A three-member CBI team visited Atulya on Thursday. “The officials showed me the DNA report and told me the skeleton belonged to my 13-year-old daughter,” Atulya said. “Navruna’s mother Maitrai Chakravorty broke down soon after,” a neighbour said.
Atulya had provided blood samples to the probe team on March 25. He had earlier refused to provide blood samples to the CID, which was assigned to probe the case.
The CBI took over investigation on the Supreme Court’s directive in February. Earlier, Delhi-based law student Abhishek Ranjan had filed a petition in the apex court, seeking a CBI probe into the case. He alleged bigwigs were involved in the alleged kidnapping. Even Atulya had said he feared the land mafia kidnapped Navruna to force him to sell his land at a throwaway price. The CBI recently conducted a polygraph test on nine suspects, including Rakesh Kumar Sinha Pappu, the husband of ward councillor Poonam Sinha, and some property dealers.
CBI sources said the test was conducted at the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, New Delhi. The skeleton was recovered from a drain on Jawahar Lal Road, adjacent to the victim’s house, on November 26, 2012.
