Patna, Dec. 10: Residents of Patna are gearing up for a musical Sunday.

The Navras School of Performing Arts will organise a show of Hindustani classical music titled “Hindustani Classical Music Evening” at Taramadal Auditorium on Sunday evening.

Classical vocalists Pandit Vijay Sardeshmukh and Gauri Pathare would perform on the occasion. The show, which would start from 4.30pm, will continue till 9.30pm.

President of the school, Rama Raman, said at a news meet today: “Senior JD (U) leader Shivanand Tiwari will inaugurate Sunday’s event. Industrialist K. Anil Kumar and Padmashree Gajendra Narayan Singh will be the guests of honour on the occasion.” Raman is a flute player himself.

Secretary Ajit Pradhan said: “Navras School of Performing Arts, which has been here for three years, aims to promote, propagate and preserve Hindustani classical music and dance in its pure form.”

Pradhan added: “This is the second major event organised by the school and we have two renowned artistes this time. The first one, organised three years back, was held at Taramandal as well.”

Shyam Mohan, joint secretary of the school and a tabla player himself, said: “Pandit Vijay Sardeshmukh made his debut at “Swar Sadhna Conference” in 1974 at Pune. He has performed at Aarat Bani-Bal Gandharva Rangamandir, Pune, Spic Macay, Pune, Vishnu Digambar Sangeet Mahotsava, New Delhi, Kumar Gandharva Mahotsava, Pune, N.C.P.A. Mumbai Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal, among others. He has also taught music.”

Gauri Pathare has also won awards like Smt. Yamunadevi Shane Puraskar, Sitaram Dixit Puraskar, Surmani Puraskar, Sangeet Ratna Puraskar and others.

She has given solo performances at Paris, Brisbane, Melbourne, New York, New Jersey and San Diego over the years.

Treasurer K.T. Singh, joint secretary Anubha Arya and member J.V.P. Bhardwaj were also present at today’s news meet.
