More grant to electricity board in the offing

Patna, April 27: The Bihar government today approved a proposal that talks of giving a grant of Rs 1,080 crore to Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) for the current fiscal (2011-12).

The proposal got approval in the cabinet meeting held on Wednesday and according to it the grant would be divided into 12 instalments of Rs 90 crore each.

This fund would be used for payment, which BSEB has to make to National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) towards purchase of power from it.

Prior to December 2009, the state government used to provide a monthly grant of Rs 60 crore to Bihar State Electricity Board towards the payment for power purchase and from the aforesaid month this was revised upwardly to Rs 90 crore.

Another major decision taken in Wednesday’s cabinet meet was transfer of government land to BD Evening College of Patna.

According to this proposal, the human resource development department would transfer 0.25 acre of land in Mithapur area of the city to the college.

In a similar decision, the cabinet approved a proposal, which talks of transferring 5.44 acre land of Kosi project in Raghopur circle of Supaul district to science and technology department.

The land would be used to set up a polytechnic ins titute, said principal secretary of cabinet coord ination department Ravikant.

Seven proposals were approved in the cabinet meeting including the one related to setting up police circle at Raghopur in Vaishali district.
