After much confusion and delay, shooter Shreyasi Singh received the earlier announced cash reward of Rs 11 lakh from chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi at a function in Patna on Wednesday.
The state government announced the cash reward for the 22-year-old shooter on August 23 after she won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on July 27.
During the felicitation ceremony, Shreyasi said she dedicated this award to her father late Digvijay Singh, who was a JDU minister during the Atal Bihari Vajpaye regime.
Shreyasi stressed that sport talents in the state need to be nurtured. Her mother Putul Singh had represented Banka parliamentary seat once.
Congratulating Shreyasi for her achievement, Manjhi said she had made the state proud.
After the state government expressed its desire to felicitate the shooter, art, culture and youth affairs minister Vinay Bihari gave various excuses for the delay of the felicitation ceremony. He first said he was too busy with the bypolls and then said he couldn't contact her as he didn't have her contact number. These comments were made in early August when Shreyasi visited Patna to take part in the felicitation ceremonies by private organisations.
Speaking on the occasion, Bihari demanded that the CRPF office at the Moinul Haque Stadium be removed soon so that the arena could be renovated and people of Bihar could see an international cricket match taking place in Patna soon.
