A schoolteacher has accused Congress MLA Siddharth Singh of abducting his daughter.
The father lodged an FIR against Siddharth (34), the MLA from Bikram constituency in Patna, on Thursday alleging he abducted his daughter from his house at a place around 25km south of Patna, in the morning.
Police station house officer (SHO) Arun Kumar Akela said Siddharth, son of paediatrician Utpal Kant Singh, has a criminal history and is absconding. He has been booked under Section 366 (A) and Section 364 of IPC and police teams constituted to nab him.
Section 366 (A) deals with forceful custody of a minor girl and carries punishment that could extend to 10 years besides fine. Section 364 deals with kidnapping or abducting for murder and carries same punishment. The offences are cognizable and non-bailable.
While the girl's father's FIR says she is 16 years old, the police say her academic certificates show that she is 18 years of age.
The girl's father said the MLA and another man, Mukesh, came to his house around 8.45am. "My daughter knows the MLA since long," he said.
"The MLA came in a white SUV with three private bodyguards and two policemen. He engaged in a conversation for 15-20 minutes and then left. Around 9am we realised our daughter was missing. We looked around but knew Siddharth was to blame. So, I lodged an FIR against him and Mukesh," said the father.
He said Siddharth, who is married, had lured his daughter earlier too. "I have another house in Patna. My daughter had disappeared from there on January 20," he said. "I lodged a general diarywith the local police and met Patna SP (east) Dhurath Sayali Sablaram on January 24. She assured all help. The same day, I took out call record details of my daughter's phone and traced her to a girl's hostel in Patrakar Nagar police station. I found her in a sari at the hostel. She told us she had got married. We brought her home. The same evening, Siddharth called us for a meeting near a temple. One of my sons and I waited but he didn't turn up. As we were moving through a secluded place, he turned up in his car with his bodyguards and accosted us. He brandished a pistol and threatened to kill my two sons if I made any more moves. I then moved my family to the other house on January 26."
A case of murder (574/98) was lodged against Siddharth at Kadamkuan in 1998. He had shot dead a friend, Abhishek Kumar, with whom he fell out over a girl. Abhishek is the grandson of a retired Supreme Court judge. Patna High Court had upheld a life term slapped on him by a lower court, but the Supreme Court released him as he was a minor. He has four more cases against him in Phulwarisharif, Beur and Bikram. Siddharth, who didn't receive calls, joined the Congress six months before polls. "He contested on an LJP ticket in 2010, but lost," Congress chief spokesperson H.K. Verma said.
Asked about the case, Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ashok Choudhary said: "The law will take its course if he is found guilty."
