Patna: Patna police heaved a sigh of relief after one of the two missing female inmates of Aasra shelter home at Nepali Nagar in Patna was recovered safely from Saguna Mor at Danapur on Saturday.

The recovery came on a day another inmate of the home that has been at the centre of a controversy died in hospital.

Acting on a tip off, a police team intercepted an auto-rickshaw near Saguna Mor on the western part of the capital and detained a woman. She was about to leave the locality when the police swung into action and took her into custody.

Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj said the police officials quizzed the woman to trace the other inmate. The two inmates - Meera and Anita - had gone missing from Aasra Home located at Nepali Nagar under the jurisdiction of Rajeev Nagar police station on Wednesday.

Aasra is a shelter home for women with mental disabilities. The home is run by the NGO Anumaya Human Resources Foundation. The police have arrested Manisha Dayal, the NGO's treasurer, and Chirantan Kumar, its secretary, for medical negligence and embezzlement of funds.

A complaint was lodged with the Rajeev Nagar police station in this connection on Thursday. Subsequently a special team was constituted to trace the missing inmates of the shelter home. "A hunt is on to trace the other inmate," SSP Maharaaj told The Telegraph on Saturday.

Meanwhile, one more inmate of the shelter home has died. Police said Anamika (27) died at the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). She was admitted to the hospital after her condition deteriorated. "She was complaining of breathlessness and was severely anaemic. She died around 8pm on Friday," PMCH superintendent Rajiv Ranjan Prasad said.

It was the third case of death of an inmate of the shelter home located in Patna. Earlier, two inmates had died.
