Patna, Aug. 9: The rains brought festivities back on the campus of Patna Women’s College where students took part in a mehndi competition organised to celebrate Saawan.
The postgraduate department of fashion technology organised the competition today. “Around 300 students took part in the fest,” said Tanuja Kishore, co-ordinator, postgraduate department of fashion technology, Patna Women’s College.
She added: “We are really happy to see such an overwhelming response. As you know, applying mehndi in Saawan is very significant in our culture. So, we organised this competition to make the students aware of their tradition. I hope this competition will help them connect better with our culture.”
Students, who took part in the competition, had an hour to apply henna on one palms of their partner. The participants were free to choose the design of the mehndi.
Tanuja said: “Applying mehndi is a really creative job. As fashion designing is all about being creative, we thought we should organise this event.”
A number of students from other departments also took part in the event. Deepshikha, a first-year B Com student, said: “It really feels nice to take part in such a competition. When I learnt of the contest, I started to practice it so that I could do well in the competition. It is really exciting to see that I am competing with such a large number of students.”
Teachers of the college, Shefali Roy, Sister Tanisha and Ejya Yadav, judged the participants.
