Central University of South Bihar's Centre for Mass Communication and Media held a weeklong workshop on "New Media Content Writing and Website Designing" from October 5 to make students understand the process behind online news production - content generation, ideation, news alerts, and website designing.
Vishal Kumar, the chief guest at the valedictory session, motivated the students to fetch knowledge about website designing. Faculty member Arun Kumar Sinha explained how a "new media" workshop would be fruitful for those who aspire to online journalism.
Ankita, one of the students in the audience, said: "The workshop was useful... we learnt about challenges in the field and what's required in media."
Mental power
The Centre for Psychological Sciences at the Central University of South Bihar observed World Mental Health Day on October 10.
The theme of this year's celebration, announced by WHO, is "Mental Health in the Workplace".
Narsingh Kumar, one of the faculty members, shared India's poor performance on the happiness index compared to her neighbours because of poor mental health policies and ignorance to the approach of community towards mental health. Atish Prashar, the guest of honour, said: "The present lifestyle has created a negative environment because of which cases of mental illness is increasing not only at work but also at home."
The university's public relations officer, Mohammad Mudassir Alam, told the participants how a positive mind and attitude can help achieve the impossible.
Clean India
National Institute of Technology's NSS wing visited various municipal wards in Patna to make people aware about hygiene, cleanliness, and the importance of having toilets at home.
Their swachh attempt was well-received by the residents.
Mani Rajak, a resident of Mahendru, said: "We all know the importance of having a toilet in a house. We appreciate the initiative taken by the NIT students in spreading the message of cleanliness."
Angad, one of the National Service Scheme (NSS) members from the institute, said: "The event took place on October 9 and 10 under the guidance of Kamni Sinha, the NSS coordinator of the National Institute of Technology, Patna.
Teacher debate
Patna University's cultural committee held a debate competition on October 9. Participants were asked to speak on the motion: Classification of teachers could improve the quality of teaching.
Ritu Thakur, a postgraduate student of political science, won the Hindi debate while Womens' Training College student Chandni Swaraj came second.
In the English debate, MBA student Akanksha and Patna Women's College student Shweta Bharti came first and second respectively. Patna Women's College was adjudged the best team in the event.
"Teachers will try to perform if there is an upgrade system in place They will take efforts to improve their teaching which would ultimately improve the learning experience of students," Ritu debated. Akanksha, who won the English debate, spoke against the motion. "Instead of upgrading teachers, more emphasis should be given on improving the infrastructure of the college, increasing teachers' strength beside ensuring proper student-teacher ratio and proper evaluation of the examination papers," she said.
