Patna: RJD chief Lalu Prasad maybe in jail, but his elder son's match has been fixed. Tej Pratap Yadav is all set to tie knot with the granddaughter of former chief minister Daroga Prasad Rai.
"It has been decided that Tej Pratap will get married to Aishwarya Rai, the daughter of Chandrika Rai," an RJD leader close to Lalu's family told The Telegraph on Thursday under cover of anonymity. "The talk of marriage started around Holi and things concretised last week."
Chandrika Rai, who was transport minister in the JDU-RJD-Congress Grand Alliance government, is the MLA from Parsa Assembly constituency in Saran district.
Sources in the RJD confirmed that the ring ceremony will be held on April 18 this year, and the wedding will be held on May 12 in Patna. Family sources said that if Lalu's health allows and if he gets parole, he will attend the wedding.
Tej Pratap's fiancée, Aishwarya, did her schooling from Notre Dame Academy, Patna, and is a postgraduate in social sciences from Amity University, New Delhi.
Talk of Tej Pratap getting married was going on ever since he became health minister in Nitish's cabinet in 2015. His mother, Rabri Devi, had announced last year on her elder son's 28th birthday that he would get married in 2018.
Last year, when The Telegraph had asked her the qualities she was looking for in the match for Tej Pratap, Rabri had said the girl should be talented enough to look after every member of the family. Lalu had said that the girl and her family should be cultured, and had declared that he would treat his daughter-in-law as his own daughter.
According to informed sources, the ring ceremony will take place at hotel Maurya and the wedding will be held at the Veterinary College ground, with which Tej Pratap has a bit of history.
That is the same place were the wedding of deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi's son Utkarsh Tathagat took place.
Last year in December, Tej Pratap had purportedly threatened to beat up Modi if the deputy chief minister invited him to his son's wedding. The venue was changed to the Veterinary College ground after that.
Later, Lalu had declared that Modi can peacefully go ahead with the wedding and his son (Tej Pratap) will not do anything.
When the dust settled, Tej Pratap had asked Modi to find a bride for him. Modi had said that he would find a bride for Tej Pratap provided the young RJD leader gave an undertaking never to threaten to disrupt any wedding.
When Tej Pratap's younger brother, Tejashwi, was the road construction department minister, there was news that he had received thousands of marriage proposals from girls on the WhatsApp helpline number of the road construction department.
The BJP leaders had mocked it then, and more recently on March 12 this year, road construction minister Nand Kishore Yadav had declared: "There was not a single marriage proposal for my predecessor Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on the WhatsApp number of the department. It was a mountain of lies."
