Patna/Gaya, Jan. 7: Police today claimed to have achieved a major success in their fight against the CPI(Maoist) by arresting two women guerrillas of the banned outfit at Sultanpur village in Sheohar district.

Sumitra Devi and Kanti Devi were allegedly involved in the killing of a local resident on January 4, 2012, among other incidents.

“They were also accused of setting afire a police patrol car under Tariyani police station in the district in 2010,” said Sheohar superintendent of police Natasha Gudia. She added that the cops found Maoist literature on the duo.

On Friday, personnel of the Special Task Force and the district armed police carried out raids at various hideouts of the militants in Jehanabad and Gaya and arrested two persons. One of them used to supply explosives to the militants.

Gaya senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vinay Kumar today said about 1,000kg of explosives, around 275 pieces of iron-made shells that were used in making improvised explosive devices, detonators and Rs 4.72 lakh were recovered during raids at Delha and Bageshwari in Gaya.

“The explosives are of high intensity and IEDs prepared from them can prove to be more destructive than the crude bombs. Police found six cellphones and as many SIM cards from the possession of the arrested duo — Kamruddin alias Bilai Mian and Azad,” the SSP said.

Police said Kamruddin and his associate were wanted in 35 cases of murder and extortion. “Kamruddin was earlier associated with SIMI,” Kumar said.
