Jitan Ram Manjhi on Sunday virtually gave the BJP licence to choose the person of its choice as the chief minister in case the NDA comes to power after the Assembly polls.
"The major party of the alliance should be given the chance to nominate a chief minister," Manjhi told reporters in an interaction at his 1 Aney Marg residence.
He came back to Patna on Sunday after a three-day visit to Delhi, during which the decision to include the Manjhi-led Hindustani Awam Morcha in the NDA fold, was taken. During his stay in the national capital, he held several meetings with senior BJP leaders, including party president Amit Shah, regarding the alliance.
Manjhi also ruled out the possibility of staking claim for the top post, adding that he had already achieved many things in life.
"My support to the BJP is unconditional and I strongly believe that the NDA should go to the poll with Narendra Modi's face. The name of the chief minister can be decided after the election and I would stand by Narendra bhai in his decision," he said.
Manjhi also explained the reason for his decision to join hands with the NDA, ahead of the Assembly elections. "I stand for Nitish's removal from power. If the NDA are fighting against him, we are allies, naturally," he said.
Dispelling all rumours of his going to the Rajya Sabha, ahead of the Assembly polls as the NDA candidate from Jharkhand, Manjhi maintained that these were created by people and maintained that any decision on this front would be taken after the Assembly elections.
Known for confusing people with his contradictory statements at different points of time, Manjhi, again, gave a conflicting signal when asked about his support to the BJP's claim to the chief ministerial post. "I personally feel like contesting the Assembly elections, but a final decision on this front would be taken by the core committee of the party," he said.
