Katihar, June 19: One Ram Niwas Yadav alleged that two persons forced him to file his nomination for the Legislative Council elections.
He has lodged a complaint in this regard at Manihari police station of the district.
A resident of Nima Bahadurpur village, around 290km northeast of Patna, Ram is a daily wager and hardly earns four square meals a day. He left school after completing Class IV.
Ram claimed he was tricked by two persons - Rajesh Yadav and Dilip Yadav. Both are residents of adjoining Baghhar village under the same police station. "Both Rajesh and Dilip came to my home on Wednesday and tricked me saying they would get me a loan disbursed and provide me a piece of land. I was then taken to a fuel pump of Ashok Aggrawal at Ambedkar Nagar in Mirchaibari," Ram said.
Ram said: "I signed papers of some 20 pages before I was taken to the office of the district collectorate office. Both Rajesh and Dilip asked me to sign wherever a lawyer would ask me to. Soon after, I signed the paper before a person who seemed to be an officer. I was asked to say before the media waiting outside the office that I am fighting election for the Legislative Council polls. I was taken to the fuel pump but I managed to flee from there pretending I had to attend nature's call. When I reached my home at night, Rajesh and Dilip were waiting at my home. I decided to inform the cops at night. I finally informed the Manihari police."
The station house officer of Manihari police station, Ranjan Kumar Singh, told The Telegraph: "One Ram Niwas Yadav had come to the police station at night complaining that he was forced to file nomination for the Legislative Council polls. He does not want to be an MLC. Since the incident occurred in Katihar Town, we told him we were out of jurisdiction. So he went away. I don't know whether he informed Katihar Town police station or not."
According to sources, Ram might have been forced to file a nomination for the polls so that he could split the votes on account of his name. One Ram Niwas Yadav alias Pagla Yadav, a contender is in fray. Pagla Yadav is a member of zila parishad, while his wife Anjali Devi is its chairperson.
