Patna: Governor Satya Pal Malik's son, who has designed the logo of Bira beer, earns more than him. Malik shared this information at the concluding function of India Skills Bihar 2018 organised by the labour resources department.

Exhorting the importance of skill development, Malik cited the example of his son: "My son, who is a graduate from the National Design Institute, earns more than what I am earning. Recently, when there was hike in governors' salaries, I told my son that my salary is now Rs 3.5 lakh per month. He replied that he gets Rs 60 lakh for making a design project."

The logo of Bira beer is a reverse B, with a monkey as a mascot, which shows a spirit of rebellion against the conventional. Malik said if a person is skilled, there is no dearth of opportunities for him. "In our country, more than 65 per cent population comprise youths. It is not possible to give jobs to everyone. But by sharpening skills, they can excel in life."

Stressing on the importance of skill development and training, Malik also talked about job opportunities for skilled persons, especially plumbers, carpenters and mechanics in Europe and US.

During the three-day event, participants from more than 25 trades showcased their skills. The participants were awarded with winners getting Rs 25,000, runners-up Rs 11,000 and rest of the participants with Rs 5,000.

The event focused on the traditional Bihar finesse such as Madhubani painting, Tikuli art, stone pottery along with newer technical skills such as fashion technology, culinary skills, mobile robotics and others.
