Patna: Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) MP from Munger Veena Devi on Wednesday launched a frontal attack on chief minister Nitish Kumar and his government claiming corruption has escalated under his authority.
Munger strongman Surajbhan Singh's wife Veena, known for her bold statements, claimed her party has a tie-up with the BJP and not with Nitish's JDU.
Veena said: "Corruption in the state has gone up as government officials are not listening to elected public representatives. Government officials have no fear of elected representatives and the government."
The MP alleged that the chief minister's claims of his fight against corruption are hollow as some government officials are busy minting money.
The Munger MP said that on several occasions she had tried to meet the chief minister to apprise him of her region's problems but Nitish never gave her time.
Veena said: "On several occasions I had tried to meet the chief minister regarding my constituency problems, but he had neither responded to phone calls nor reverted to the letter she had sent him."
Veena Devi's sudden outburst towards Nitish stems from an inauguration of a road at Chanan in her constituency.
On Monday, Veena had gone for the opening of a road built under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PM Rural Road Scheme) at Chanan. During the event, there was little mention of the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana, but looked more of a state government initiative.
Veena on seeing the inauguration stone staged a protest with the government officials who were present at the spot, but her complaints went unheard.
Veena claimed that the state government, without taking any initiative, is taking credit for the work that is a Union government project.
The MP said: "Most disturbing was that on the inauguration stone her name was written in a smaller font size compared to the name size of local RJD Suryagarha MLA Prahlad Yadav."
Veena's statement has come at a time when the NDA is putting up a united face after BJP national president Amit Shah's recent visit. Even LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan has said that the NDA stands united.
JDU spokesperson Sanjay Singh remained tight-lipped and refused to comment anything on Veena Devi's remark.
This is not the first time Veena Devi has put up a disgruntled face against Nitish and the JDU. Recently, she staked claim that the LJP will never sacrifice its sitting seats and in no situation will she leave her Munger seat.
Sources said the JDU is planning to pit Nitish's aide and minister for water resources, planning and development, Rajiv Ranjan Singh a.k.a Lalan Singh, for the Munger seat.
