LABOUR FOR LEPROSY: General secretary of Bihar chapter of Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL), Dr Vikas Shankar speaks during a programme organised by IADVL to mark World Leprosy Day at Nalanda Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday. "Leprosy is noted in Vedas, Quran and Bible but from ancient time we are fighting against the disease and we are still fighting. In 2005, India declared that leprosy had been eradicated from the country but it was only on paper. All government hospitals have leprosy patient-related data but private practitioners don't have the data because of which we don't have record of many patients. There is recurrence and heavy load of leprosy patients, especially in Bihar, Bengal, Odisha and some parts of Gujarat," said Shankar. Text by Shuchismita Chakraborty, Telegraph picture
