Kishor on strategy beat, entry to cabinet unlikely

Kishor had played an important role in devising the election strategy of the Grand Alliance — comprising the RJD, Congress and the JDU — in the 2015 Assembly elections

Prashant Kishor, former Grand Alliance strategist and now JDU member, is likely to play a key role in his party’s organisation work and charting out a strategy for the coming polls.

Kishor’s induction into the JDU state council and national council indicates so.

“While our state unit president Bashishtha Narayan Singh okayed his induction into the state council, national president Nitish Kumar too has okayed his inclusion in the national council,” a JDU insider told The Telegraph undercover of anonymity on Friday.

Kishor had joined the JDU on September 16.

Interpreting Kishor’s rise in the party organisational set-up in less than a month of joining, a senior leader said: “Our national president seems to be interested in using Kishor’s organisational skills in strengthening the party and expanding its base in Bihar and other states where we have been contesting elections.”

He also pointed out that Kishor’s expertise in designing election strategy is going to be used in the coming general elections where the JDU expects to contest at least 16 seats.

Kishor had played an important role in devising the election strategy of the Grand Alliance — comprising the RJD, Congress and the JDU — in the 2015 Assembly elections.

The alliance stopped the BJP juggernaut, which had seemed invincible after the outcome of the 2014 general election.

JDU insiders said Kishor’s induction in the Bihar cabinet — likely to be expanded after Durga Puja — is, however, not likely.

“Our understanding is that instead of binding Kishor with the responsibility of just one or two departments, Nitishji will like to use him for a bigger role given the fact the opposition parties too seem to be in a mood of giving the NDA tough fight by coming under one umbrella ahead of the next general elections,” a senior JDU leader said.

“Kishor’s expertise in charting out a counter strategy against the united Opposition strategy would be quite handy at that time,” he added.
