Patna, May 6: The youth who allegedly murdered 15-year-old Rohit Kumar had posed as a girl on a social networking site to get the chloroform he and his friend used to snuff out the life of the schoolboy.

Police sources said Vishal, a friend and distant relative of Rohit, had opened an account on the site under a false name — that of a girl — in an attempt to befriend anyone who could provide chloroform, which cannot be obtained across the counter.

The chemical, which Vishal and his friend-cum-accomplice Anand managed to obtain, was used to spike the cold drink offered to Rohit, who started feeling dizzy after a few gulps, making the job of the duo easier.

The sources said that Vishal, who was good with computers, opened an account on the networking site posing as a female and started searching for a medical or science student in Patna who could give him the chemical.

The sources said Vishal did manage to “trap” one boy, whose identity The Telegraph is keeping under wraps as it is yet to be established if he had any role in the diabolical plot to murder Rohit.

The police are still verifying the antecedents of this boy.

“The police had not investigated this angle initially. But with the sale of chloroform banned in the market and Vishal getting the substance from this boy, he too comes under the scanner for illegally passing on the chemical to him,” a senior police officer said on condition of anonymity.

Police sources said that Vishal first posed as a girl and got in touch with this boy on the Internet. Both of them chatted online during which Vishal, posing as the girl, introduced himself as a medical student. He then started getting friendly with the boy, who, under the impression that he was chatting with a girl, started responding.

“This shows the amount of planning by Vishal and his friend Anand. This was a very well planned and cold-blooded murder. Vishal, the main culprit, knew that getting possession of chloroform was impossible. So he took the other way out. Luckily for him, he got the chance he was waiting for. He befriended this boy who could be a student of science stream in any college or even a medical student. We are checking his background,” the police source said.

After drawing close over a few days, Vishal asked the boy to get chloroform, saying he wanted the chemical for dissecting a frog. Police sources said Vishal called up this boy and spoke to him in a shrill voice to sound like a girl. The boy fell for the trap, hook, line and sinker.

Vishal told the boy that if he wanted to continue with the friendship, he would have to provide him with the chloroform. The boy, excited over the prospect of befriending a girl, agreed. A meeting was set up. But it was Anand who met the boy, posing as a friend of Vishal, and got the chemical from him, the sources said.

“The police will be making investigations. The boy will be brought into the picture and questioned,” city superintendent of police Shivdeep Lande told The Telegraph.

Rohit, a Class X student of DAV Khagaul and the son of CPWD engineer Sanjay Kumar, was kidnapped for ransom by Vishal and Anand last Sunday and murdered with a blade.

The police, on May 4, recovered the body of the boy that was stacked in a borewell in Khagaul. The duo had planned to ask for a ransom of Rs 10 lakh from Rohit’s family just to have some fun with the money.
