Three children with acute encephalitis syndrome took admission to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital in the past seven days.
Of the three patients admitted to the health hub since May 22, one has died. Five-year-old Godam Kumar of Mau Bazaar area passed away on May 25.
Another five-year-old patient, Priyanka Kumari of Dukhadpur village, was admitted on May 22 and Kalu Kumar of Chanda village of Aurangabad district on May 23. Their condition is being monitored.
Hospital superintendent Sitaram Prasad said tests have confirmed that the three children suffered from acute encephalitis syndrome.
Prasad said: “We are ready to provide the best possible treatment to the patients. A requisition for 200 treatment kits of Japanese encephalitis was sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune, around two months ago.
“The kits have been despatched and will be available at our hospital by the end of this week. The kits will ensure testing of at least 200 patients.”
Three fully air-conditioned wards of eight beds each are ready at the hospital for the acute encephalitis syndrome patients.
“There is some technical fault in a couple of air conditioners at the hospital and a tender has been floated today (May 27) to ensure their repair,” Prasad said.
All necessary medicines for the acute encephalitis syndrome patients are available at the hospital, he said.
