The times they are a changing. Today’s students don’t seem to be enjoying their vacations. Some of them are actually raring to return to school as soon as possible.
Take the case of Class VI student from St Joseph’s Convent High School, Meher Mahfooz. Though her school will reopen on June 24, the 11-year-old is already bored. She wants it to reopen as soon as possible so that she can meet her friends again. For now, Meher has been studying, skating, playing computer games and watching movies regularly. “But I still miss school, my friends and teachers. I am also missing my group study sessions with my friends and especially the PT classes,” she said. She also misses her favourite geography classes.
With about a week to go, her ordeal should end soon.
Then there is Abdul Wohhab, a Class III student of Don Bosco Primary School. There is a special reason why he is craving to return to school. It is alimentary. The eight-year-old said: “I want to get promoted to Class V soon, as I will then attend classes in the main building of my school. Once there, I can enjoy samosas in the canteen of the main building.”
That will take some time. For now, Wohhab is busy skating, reading and exercising. His school, too, will reopen on June 24.
Some are not able to enjoy their vacations because of what lies ahead, board exams next year. Class X student of St Michael’s High School, Krishanu Dutta Bhuyan, is excited he will meet his friends once school reopens but as tense about the board examination. He said: “Many exams are lined up and this is the time for preparation. I’ve already drawn up a routine. I’m tense as I know that Class X results will determine my future.” His school reopens on June 26.
Bhavya Verma, another Class XII student of the CBSE wing of International School echoed the same sentiments. She said: “Though I am happy I will get to meet my friends, I am also nervous about my board examinations. I have to start preparing for the exam. I have prepared well for physics and chemistry, but am facing problems with maths, especially trigonometry. I need to take maths tuition.” Her school reopens on June 25.
