Kheer pot on the boil

Kushwaha keeps camps guessing

Patna: Will the kheer the recipe for which has been suggested by Union minister and NDA ally Upendra Kushwaha crystallise in Bihar? Leaders from the two main political camps believe Kushwaha isn't moving anywhere, just yet.

"He (Kushwaha) is ambitious. But his ambition lies in being the chief minister of the state and not increasing his number of MPs. How can one think that he (Kushwaha) would accept the leadership of Tejashwi Yadav," said a confidant of the Union minister, who also heads the Rashtriya Lok Samta Party.

"That is why the RLSP has taken the line that the NDA should project another chief ministerial face," said the Kushwaha aide.

The minister on Monday sought to distance himself from talks of a political realignment touched off by his statement on Saturday that milk (associated with Yadavs, the RJD's traditional votebank) and rice (a reference to Kushwahas, who are in the main agriculturists) would mingle well to form a delectable kheer.

"I had made the statement with the view to prevent social tensions," Kushwaha said while leaving for Delhi on Monday.

"I never spoke about any party. I have neither asked for milk from the RJD nor sugar from the BJP. If RLSP is strong then NDA will be strengthened & @narendramodi will become the PM in 2019," Kushwaha said in a tweet.
