Patna, Feb. 19: Fatima Nafees, mother of missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed, today spat venom against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged people to demand a reply from him on her son's disappearance.
She was here to take part in the Adhikar Rally organised by CPI-ML (Liberation).
Najeeb went missing from JNU's Mahi-Mandvi hostel on October 15 last year, allegedly after an on-campus scuffle with some members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). He was pursuing a postgraduate course in biotechnology at JNU.
"It's been four months since Najeeb is missing but Narendra Modi's police have failed to find him," Fatima told the people with CPI-ML (Liberation) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya by her side.
"Today, I have come here to say that the Prime Minister has to give the answer and he has to find my son. This rally has given me strength and if you all are with me, I believe that my fight against injustice will be successful."
Earlier, JNU Students' Union members had protested against Delhi police, alleging that those who had thrashed Najeeb have not yet been interrogated. The Delhi police have announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for anyone who provides information about Najeeb.
Fatima said: "We come from a very small and poor family and my son Najeeb had taken the admission in JNU with big dreams in his mind. He had just completed three months in the university when ABVP goons thrashed him in front of the hostel warden. Thereafter, he went missing. Do you think that poor people are not supposed to dream big? They have every right to study and make their future."
Bhattacharya, a JNU alumnus, attacked the PM and said the country was going through a mysterious phase where JNU students were going missing.
