Patna, March 4: Jawans of Bihar Military Police, trained to combat dreaded Maoists, were in for a shock today when they were “attacked” by schoolchildren.

Government Middle School students allegedly attacked Bihar Military Police battalion six, whose administrative offices and residential quarters are on the school premises.

Reason: The jawans allegedly indulge in eve teasing and harass the students continuously.

An officer from the airport police station, under whose jurisdiction the incident took place, said around 10.45am, the enraged schoolchildren attacked the jawans when an officer allegedly assaulted one of the pupils.

Students allegedly vandalised a two-wheeler and ransacked the residential quarters of the jawans. They also threw away the food the jawans were preparing.

The jawans had no other option but to flee the wrath of this juvenile retribution.

The students also blocked a stretch of Bailey Road for more than an hour.

“There are four residential and quarters an office of BMP on the school premises. The jawans who stay here tease the girls all the time. They also harass us,” said a student.

Another student added: “The latrines are at the back of the school. The jawans usually linger there and pass lewd comments at girls going to the latrines.”

The students also demanded that the camp be removed from the school premises immediately.

“This is our school. Why should the BMP offices be here? The officers misbehave with us constantly. Today they even assaulted a student who wanted to use a boring well. We always feel threatened by their presence,” said a student.

The jawans, however, refute all the claims.

“The camp on the school premises is a sort of a canteen. Food cooked here is sent to other battalions. Why should they eve tease the children?” said a BMP jawan.

He added: “The allegations are all false and baseless. It is a plan to drive us away from here. The schoolchildren and some adults attacked the camp today. They ransacked everything and even stole some clothes,” said the jawan.

City superintendent of police Shivdeep Lande rushed to the spot to control the incident from spiralling further.

Police said the matter was being investigated.

The state government had earlier said that all battalion offices of paramilitary forces would be removed from residential areas and public places.

This is not the first time that residents of the state capital have clashed with security personnel.

A source said the government had decided on this after CRPF jawan Yashwant shot dead National-level kabaddi player Manisha Devi near Moinul Haq Stadium on February 9 this year.

Manisha had rebuffed the amorous advances of the 33-year old jawan. Yashwant shot himself after killing Manisha.

The battalion of Central Reserve Police Force 31st battalion, with which Yashwant was posted, is camping at present on the premises of Moinul Haq Stadium.
