Chhapra, June 4: Superintendent of police, Gopalganj, K.S. Anupam has raised suspicion over the role of Krishna Singh — the jailor suspended in connection with the murder of Bhudeo Singh, a doctor beaten to death by prison inmates on May 27.

“The role of the jailor is under the scanner. The police are investigating the case from all possible angles,” Anupam told The Telegraph.

The administration had suspended Krishna and prison superintendent Ashok Kumar after the incident. The police investigation, apparently, lends credence to the slain doctor’s suspicion about the jailor being hand-in-glove with those who beat him to death.

The deceased’s relatives at his ancestral village at Naini, 5km from Chhapra, said Bhudeo had shared his suspicion about the jailor with his wife and other family members before he was murdered.

“They (prisoners) had planned to use the medical certificate to procure court’s permission to be shifted to Patna Medical College and Hospital for treatment. They would have escaped from custody on their way to Patna,” Bhudeo’s wife quoted her husband.

Krishna’s record as a jailor is not unblemished. The administration had charged him for “assisting” the escape of certain under-trials from Hajipur jail when he was its jailor in 2002-03. He had been arrested and even put behind the bars for sometime.
