Patna, May 13: Springing a surprise in police circles, an IPS couple of Bihar have recently sought their cadre transfer for “personal reasons”.

The couple — senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Bhagalpur K.S Anupam and her IPS husband Amrit Raj — have written to the state police headquarters seeking change of their cadre from Bihar to Andhra Pradesh. Raj is at present posted as Patna SSP.

The 1998 batch IPS officers have cited “personal reasons” in the letter to the director-general of police seeking the cadre transfer. Both Anupam and Raj signed the letter.

A senior officer posted at the state police headquarters said Anupam is a native of Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district. Raj belongs to Darbhanga district in north Bihar.

The state government on March 25 this year transferred Anupam and Raj from Gopalganj and Siwan district, respectively, and appointed them as the SSP of Bhagalpur and Patna, respectively. The top police officers are surprised over the letter seeking cadre transfer as the couple had been enjoying plum postings during the present dispensation.

Anupam served as the SP of Darbhanga, Bettiah (west Champaran), Khagaria, Saharsa and Gopalganj. Her husband served as the city SP of Patna and SP of Siwan and Madhubani districts.

Additional director-general of police (headquarters) Ravinder Kumar said Anupam and Raj had approached the headquarters about six months ago for inter-state deputation to Andhra Pradesh as Anupam’s father was ill. They were then posted in Gopalganj and Siwan as SPs. “But I have no idea about any recent letter of the IPS couple seeking cadre transfer,” he said. “Let me first verify it,” Kumar told The Telegraph.

Sources in the police headquarters said Anupam was a bit disturbed after the death of her father a few months ago.
