Patna, July 21: The authorities of Patna University (PU) are completely in the dark about the set of rules and regulations posted on the University Grants Commission (UGC) website a month ago to curb ragging.
The spurt in ragging in colleges over the past few years had prompted the UGC to post the regulations on its website. The varsity and the college authorities are supposed to download them in the DVD format and show them to the students. But the PU authorities are blissfully oblivious to it.
Magadh University registrar D.K. Yadav said: “We do not have any such information but we will consult the dean on this. It is the dean who deals with these issues. We had issued an anti-ragging notice last year. Moreover, we have a board with a proctor and the students’ welfare association to deal with these issues.”
Kashinath, the principal of Patna Science College, said: “We do not know about this. If it is mandatory, we will go by the rules.”
According to the rules and regulations, each college is supposed to form an anti-ragging committee. Posters related to anti-ragging should be put up in hostels and on college campus to create awareness among students. The UGC also has a toll-free number, which students can call to register complaints.
