Gaya, Feb. 1: Magadh University authorities have issued a notification, announcing a hike in examination fee of conventional and vocational courses and proposing an increase in admission fee.

The last time the examination fee was increased was in 2005. The university has, however, not proposed any hike in tuition fee, which has remained Rs 12 ever since the institute was set up in 1962.

The senate and the syndicate are yet to give a nod to the university for the examination fee hike. Sources said the notification was issued anticipating that the two apex bodies would approve the proposal. In case the syndicate or the senate turned down the proposal, the university would adjust the additional fee that a student has paid. “Additional fee charged from a Part I student would be adjusted when he or she takes the Part II exam,” a source said.

Magadh University exam-ination controller Sushil Kumar Singh today told The Telegraph: “According to the notification, the examination fee has been hiked. These days, the university provides computerised marksheets to students instead of the ones printed manually. The paper of the certificates is of high quality and has a watermark.”

The new fee structure would be implemented from the next academic session.

According to the new examination fee structure, degree students of science, commerce and arts streams would have to pay Rs 620 instead of Rs 420 and the SC/ST students would have to pay Rs 390 instead of Rs 250. For the Part III examination, general students have to pay Rs 1,320 as against the earlier fee of Rs 1,120. In case of the SC/ST students, the new fee structure is Rs 1,090 as against Rs 900.

The university’s decision to raise the examination fee has not gone down well with students’ unions. Nagmani, the state coordinator of Bihar Yuva Jan Aandolan Morcha, said a phase-wise movement would be launched against the fee hike. All India Students’ Federation and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad activists had staged a protest against the fee hike at the Magadh University’s Patna branch office on January 25.
