The girl who was allegedly raped on the Patna collectorate premises November 9 has alleged that the cops had locked her and her mother up.
On Saturday, Sushma Sahu, a member of the National Commission for Women, had said the cops' role was "suspicious", and demanded that two policemen be suspended. These two, Sahu alleged, had asked for bribe from the victim's brother.
The police are yet to arrest the main accused, Sonu.
"The victim has recorded her statement in court and the police are acting on the basis of the same," superintendent of police (central) Chandan Khuswaha said on Monday. "A special team is searching for the main accused and has traced his location."
Police sources said the victim's primary medical report was "not clear". The 12-year-old girl's clothes were collected only on Monday for tests, the sources added.
The girl narrated her ordeal to The Telegraph: "Sonu and Nandu pulled me into a small, dilapidated shop; Nandu gagged me. I saw four men, including Bablu and Nanki. I saw Nanki talking on his cellphone asking more people to join them. Sonu attacked me first and Bablu did the same later. After this, I got an opportunity to flee and grabbed it. I somehow reached home at around 8pm and told my sister-in-law. My family took me to Gandhi Maidan police station."
An FIR was lodged at the women's police station the same evening. However, the girl's recorded statement names only Sonu.
"There was a madam in uniform who told me repeatedly that if I mentioned more than one name, my entire family would go to jail," the girl said. "Scared, I agreed. They (police) kept me and my mother locked up in a room at the police station for about three days. We were only let out of the room to use the toilet. November 12, there was a protest outside the police station and we were freed only after that ."
Patna senior superintendent of police Vikas Vaibhav said though Sonu had allegedly raped the girl, Nandu was arrested on the basis of the statement given by the girl's family.
Both SP Khuswaha and SSP Vaibhav said the allegations against the cops were being investigated, and that action will be taken if the charges are found to be true.
