Bhagalpur: Governor Satya Pal Malik congratulated students of Bihar Agriculture University, Sabour, on Wednesday, praising the girls for their motivation and advising the boys to pay attention to their studies.

At the university's fourth convocation ceremony, of 431 students, 222 were women. Of nine gold-medal recipients, three were girls.

Malik, who is also the chancellor of Bihar universities, lauded the women for outnumbering the men for the first time in the university's history. "This indicates a good day ahead. So many motivated girls in the field of agriculture will help change the fate of our society," he said.

Citing his recent endeavour to fight eve-teasing incidents in Patna colleges, Malik told Bihar Agriculture University vice-chancellor Ajay Kumar Singh to create such an environment on campus that girls don't face such cases.

Becoming nostalgic, Malik recounted how as a 2-year-old, he lost his father and worked in the fields to be able to continue his studies. "Because of my vast experience in agriculture, I can understand the real problem of the farmers here," he said, requesting the Sabour institution to innovate modern farming techniques and try launch them directly on the fields.

In his convocation address, Trust for Advancement of Agriculture Science, New Delhi, chairman R.S. Paroda said until and unless condition of farmers change, one cannot expect green revolution.
