Patna, Jan. 19: Patna High Court today directed the superintendents of police (SPs) of Buxar and Siwan to appear in person on February 23 in connection with a contempt court case.

A bench of Justice Navin Sinha passed the direction on a contempt petition filed by one Jatashanker Yadav whose grievance was not redressed despite the high court’s order to consider his representation with regard to employment.

Petitioner’s counsel Kumar Vishokanand submitted that Yadav, who had applied for constable’s post in 2007 did not receive any appointment letter till date despite SP Siwan informing the court replying to the showcause notice that he has been selected for Bihar Military Police (BMP) 4 for which the appointment letter was sent.

The counsel said Yadav made application for the post of constable in 2007 and was finally selected after going through the physical and medical examination and even received a call letter. However, according to the petition filed, Yadav was called again for another medical examination, after which he was rejected.

Aggrieved, Yadav approached the high court which directed him to give representation to Bhojpur SP who was also the chairman of BMP board 4 and the SP would pass the direction in accordance with the law. However, nothing happened after the direction was passed.

PIL filed

The Students’ Federation of India, a student wing of the CPM, today filed a PIL in the Patna High Court seeking removal of Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University, vice-chancellor Nand Kishore Sharma.

SFI members claimed that Sharma was allegedly involved in criminal cases, bringing bad name for the institution thus vitiating the academic atmosphere of the university.

The petition filed through counsel M.P. Gupta submitted that the court should direct the state government to take punitive action against the erring VC and should also initiate the process to appoint new VC having good academic record.

Gupta contended in his petition that the continuation of the incumbent VC, who has been absconding in many criminal cases, has not only worsened the academic atmosphere of the institution but also had its impact on students. It said that the head of the institution along with other officials have been involved in many criminal cases for financial embezzlement and administrative irregularities.
