Students of Anugrah Narayan Medical College and Hospital stage a demonstration on Wednesday, suspending services at the emergency and outpatient departments for the third consecutive day. They also closed the main gate of the health hub and emergency ward. The medicos have been demanding the completion of the boundary wall for their safety from slum dwellers on the northern side of the hospital or at least a specific deadline for the project. Even though the administration has been requesting them to at least open the emergency ward, patients are not being admitted to the emergency or the outpatient departments since Monday. The administration started the construction of the boundary wall on Tuesday but it had to be suspended on Wednesday because of the medicos’ protest. The medical students have threatened to suspend services at the other medical colleges and hospitals in the state if the problem remained unsolved. Text by Alok Kumar, picture by Suman |
