Patna: Power distribution companies in Bihar have urged people to provide information about hamlets that might have inadvertently been left out during in the ongoing drive to electrify all hamlets of the state by April 30 this year.
Bihar earned the distinction of having electrified all its 39,073 revenue villages in December last year, and the state is on the final leg of electrifying its 10,6,249 hamlets. Bihar being a densely populated state, most revenue villages have several hamlets.
The North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited are executing the hamlet electrification work.
According to the latest government figures, all hamlets have been electrified in 21 districts: Patna, Nawada, Nalanda, Buxar, Bhojpur, Jamui, Sheikhpura, Munger, West Champaran, Siwan, Gopalganj, Sheohar, Saharsa, Madhepura, Khagaria, Supaul, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Purnea, Kishanganj, and Araria.
The distribution companies, however, want people to report - on the mobile number 9264454457 - if any hamlets in the electrified villages have been left out. The information can also be shared via email to ceddugjysbpdcl@gmail.com for south Bihar and cere.bseb@gmail.com for north Bihar region.
The power companies' headquarters have set up a small cell to monitor the information received from the public, on the basis of which directives would be issued to the field officials.
"We have also written letters to all the people's representatives and district magistrates concerned to provide information in case they have any," said a senior official of Bihar State Power Holding Company.
He said that the main aim was to ensure that no hamlet remains without power.
Another senior official pointed out that unlike revenue villages, which are well defined, there is no set parameter of identifying hamlets and hence physical verification of such places was needed.
The official said that around 5,000 hamlets in 17 districts are still without power.
