Patna, April 8: Those of you who have had a bit too much of the crowded streets of the city and the four walls of your home, here is some good news for you. A number of green spaces that have come up in the state capital will help you breathe easy, literally.

Sources said earlier Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park was the only place where one could escape from the hurly-burly of the urban jungle. But now a number of parks have started inviting Patna residents for an escape into the green.

One such oasis is Rajdhani Vatika — the twin ecological parks that have become very popular with picnickers as well as children.

“On weekends we go there for casual strolls. It is also a good venue for family picnics,” said Krishna Kant, a bank employee and a regular visitor to the park.

Krishna added: “Earlier, the zoo was the only option we had. There was hardly any place where we could go and sit. But it’s good the government is developing such spots now.”

For those stuck with the bittersweet arrows of Cupid, what better place to meet their beloved away from the maddening crowds than the lap of nature. These parks provide the ideal cultivating grounds — not only for flowers but also for love.

“The best thing about these parks is that they are not overcrowded. Also, most people who go there are very decent,” said Gaurav Kant, who has been spending a lot of time in the ecological park these days with his lady love.

It is also easy on the lovers’ pockets.

“Thanks to such parks, we can spend quality time together without taxing our budgets by going to expensive restaurants in search of solitude,” added Gaurav.

The Buddha Smriti Park, near Station Road, is popular not only for its beauty but also because it is easily accessible.

Youths and college students can often be found on the staircase near the entrance, chatting and having a good time.

“It is easily accessible. It is a good place to hang out after college,” said Rashmi, a college student who had come to the park with her friends.

Children of Patna are, of course, overjoyed by the green development. Deprived of places to imitate their cricket or football gods, children now flock to these parks to stretch their legs and engage in epic matches.

The recreation park opposite St Xavier’s School near Gandhi Maidan attracts children every evening. While the young ones enjoy swings or other rides at the park, the parents sit around in the rare open space, remembering their childhood.

“Because of space crunch, houses do not have sprawling lawns or gardens where children can play. But such recreational parks help children enjoy outdoor games,” said Mamta Kumari, a mother of two who brings her children to this park regularly.
