National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Patna, held its convocation on Tuesday. A total of 55 students - 32 from fashion designing department and 23 from fashion management studies - participated in the event at SK Memorial Hall.
Chief secretary Anjani Kumar Singh graced the ceremony as the chief guest.
He said: "This is the first time I am wearing a convocation gown. What makes the occasion special is that the gown has been designed by the NIFT students."
Singh handed over students the awards and certificates. Kunal Debnath from fashion designing department received the best academic performance honour, apart from the best student of the year award.
In fashion management studies, Nupur Kamal was awarded for the best academic performance.
Chief secretary Singh added: "Fashion means development of overall personality and is a great means of employment generation.
Fashionova, a fashion show, was also organised at the convocation ceremony.
At a news meet last Thursday, NIFT faculty member Vikas Kumar spoke on the good placement record of the college over the past few years. "Of the 32 students in the fashion designing course, 22 have secured high-paying jobs. Of the 23 students in fashion management studies, 20 have got similar jobs. This year, Giordano, Raymond, Snapdeal among other companies offered placements to the students," he said.
Fitting farewell
Home science students of Magadh Mahila College organised a farewell for their seniors on the campus on Saturday.
The seniors received a warm welcome with roses. The programme began with the juniors' performances. Songs suited to farewells were sung, creating an emotional ambience. Later, the juniors hit the stage to Bollywood tracks.
Students of the outgoing batch spoke of their college days nostalgically.
Neha Rani, one of them, said: "This college was my second home. I am really overwhelmed. I am going to miss everything about this place, especially the teachers and my friends."
Various competitions were arranged for the seniors. An award ceremony followed the programme.
Fashion forward
Arvind Mahila College will start fashion technology courses from July this year as part of the government's community college programme.
The institution has been picked to run a year-long diploma courses in fashion technology.
Principal P.K. Verma said: "It's a proud moment for our college to be selected under the community college programme. The one-year course has a lot of scope for the girls. The course will also help the girls access industries and multinational companies. The programme will be launched in July."
Fashion technology courses are already available in four colleges of Patna - Patna Women's College, JD Women's College, AN College and National Institute of Fashion and Technology.
Girls of Arvind Mahila were happy to hear of the vocational course.
Sagarika Singh, a Hindi honours student, said: "Vocational courses are job-oriented. It is good for students like us who are handy with fabrics and have knowledge of fashion trends. I always like to design my dresses and want to pursue a career in fashion designing."
