Bettiah: A joint team of Haridwar and Raxaul police on Thursday claimed to have busted an organised inter-state racket by nabbing two men with Apple mobiles and Tablets stolen from a showroom in Haridwar.

Parading the duo before the media in Raxaul, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Rakesh Kumar told a news conference that both Bipatdas and Prabhunath Pandey, who are the residents of Ghodasahan (East Champaran), burgled a showroom in Haridwar on January 28 this year.

"Police have found six Apple mobiles and as many Tablets from their possession. We laid a trap on the basis of our information and caught hold of them when they were on their way to Nepal," he said.

On February 14, police had arrested another Ghodasahan resident, Mohammad Sahabaz, taking the tally to three in this connection.

Haridwar police had lodged an FIR against unnamed criminals with Jawalapur Kotwali after a burglary was reported around 5am on January 18, 2018, in which 27 Apple mobiles and 13 Tablets were stolen.

Speaking over phone from Raxaul, Jawalapur Kotwali (Haridwar) station house officer Amarjeet Singh said: "The duo have confessed to have committed the crime in connivance with 10 others. Hunt for the other criminals is on."

A team of Haridwar police comprising eight personnel reached Raxaul early this month in the aftermath of analysing video footage, hotel occupancy details and nature of crime.

"An organised gang belonging to Ghorasahan area has had a history of committing such crimes in the state of Uttarakhand. Locally known as shutter- katwa gang, a group of people belonging to Ghodasan has earned notoriety in breaking open the shutters of commercial establishments to steal.

"We have information about these gangs being active in metropolitan cities and other parts of the country," said Raxual police station inspector Ugranath Jha.
