Patna, May 7: The education department has invited the people to provide land for constructing school buildings in a bid to fill the vacuum of schools running without their own structures.
Although the government would not provide money for the land given, the school would bear the name of the landowner.
At a news meet of the education department on Tuesday, principal secretary Amarjeet Sinha said: “The department has recently issued a notice inviting the common people (land owners) to provide land for constructing school buildings and in lieu, the schools would be named after them.”
If a group of people provides the land, then all of their names would be inscribed on the plaque that will be installed at the institution’s entrance.
According to the notification, 20 decimal land (100 decimals is equal to 1 acre) is required for the construction of elementary schools while for construction of secondary schools, 1.5 acres of land is required.
Out of 71,000 schools in Bihar, as many as 7,000 schools run out of rented premises or open spaces.
Sinha added that the names of people who would provide monetary help towards the construction of classrooms in the existing schools, will also have their names inscribed on a plaque at the school’s entrance.
He also announced that for a month from June 11, applications would be accepted from candidates who have cleared the Secondary Teachers’ Eligibility Test for appointment in Plus Two schools. The department had conducted the eligibility test in February last year. Based on that, the government will appoint 20,000 teachers in Plus Two schools.
