Patna: An 18-year-old girl from Kishanganj district, who had eloped with and married a man from a different community, has filed an FIR alleging her that her husband and in-laws are forcing her to change her religion.

In her FIR lodged at the women's police station, the girl, a college student in Kishanganj, around 367km northeast of Patna, has accused her husband Mohammad Raza a.k.a Kina, an electrician, and his sister of assault and pressure to convert.

The girl had eloped with Raza, her neighbour, on May 13 this year and married him in Delhi. Her mother had lodged a missing-person police case and the couple purportedly returned under pressure of the local police. The girl told a judicial magistrate that she had gone with Raza on her own. A court ordered the couple to live together.

The girl, who has run away from her in-laws' house, has now told Kishanganj sub-divisional police officer Kamini Bala that her husband and in-laws had been harassing her for dowry. She was beaten up on October 26 and threatened with dire consequences if she didn't convert, she alleged.

A police officer said Raza and his sister have been booked under sections 366, 376, 295 A, 495, 344, 498A, 323, 506 and 34 IPC (all related to forced marriage, rape, and hurting religious sentiments) and raids are on to arrest the accused, who are absconding.
