Gangster Anil Ojha was arrested from Ramna under the jurisdiction of Mithanpura police station on Tuesday night.

Ojha, a resident of Khabra, was drunk and was seen moving with three armed men in Ramna.

Local people who recognised Ojha hurriedly informed senior superintendent of police Vivek Kumar, who laid a trap and nabbed the gangster. Sensing trouble, the three others, said to be his gang members, fled.

Police said deputy superintendent of police (city) Ashish Anand carried out a series of raids at Ojha's hideouts in Muzaffarpur and Khabra. But nothing was found. Police recovered a mobile phone and put it on electronic surveillance to collect details of his criminal hobnobbing and connections. Ojha has also been examined with breathalyser and the test confirmed he had consumed alcohol in a state where prohibition is in place.

The SSP said Ojha has been evading arrest since the time his name figured in the murder case of Mohammad Shamim Khan, a student leader of the Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bihar University on August 1, 2013.

He was wanted in 21 criminal cases related to murder, extortion and arms act at Kazi Mohammadpur, Town, and Sadar police stations of the district and in Motihari and Patna.

Police had attached his property at the behest of the district court to exert pressure for his surrender in Khabra on August 17.

Ashish Anand interrogated Ojha, who confessed of all crimes and also gave names of his accomplices and those who gave him shelter, said the DSP.

Inspector-general of police (Muzaffarpur) Sunil Kumar has ordered all the investigation officers of the cases in which Ojha was evading arrest to take him in remand for further probe.
