Muzaffarpur police on Tuesday arrested four of seven accused in the gang-rape of a 14-year-old girl under the jurisdiction of Katra police station in Muzaffarpur district on Saturday night.

Muzaffarpur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vivek Kumar said Sachin, Gagan and Anish, all in their 20s, were arrested from Bakshi Chowk on Monday night and Raushan Kumar from Zeromile Chowk under the jurisdiction of Ahiapur police station on Tuesday afternoon. A special investigation team (SIT) headed by Muzaffarpur deputy superintendent of police (east) Gaurab Pandey raided different hideouts and nabbed them. They were produced in a local court, which remanded them in 14 days judicial custody. The SSP said the girl's statement was recorded in the court under Section 164 of CrPC. Medical examination had earlier confirmed rape.

Three other accused, identified as Ravi Shekhar, Arvind Kumar and Vikas Kumar, are still at large.

Director-general of police P.K. Thakur confirmed the arrests and said the SSP concerned has been instructed to ensure speedy trial.

The girl was returning to her relative's house from a Dussehra fair when the men kidnapped her on Katra-Benibad road, took her to a nearby agricultural field and raped her. Two of the youths made a video and uploaded it on social media. Residents reportedly pressured her family not to approach the police. But relatives and some social activists lodged a formal complaint on Monday. SP (east) Pandey said efforts were on to arrest the three other accused, who tried to prevent the family from lodging a police complaint.
