Patna, April 26: Anandpuri area seems to have become a favourite hunting ground of gizmo-greedy thieves.

Electronic items, including laptops and mobile phones, are their prime targets. For these brand conscious thieves, Blackberry mobiles are the most sought-after booty.

With the Sri Krishna Puri police station failing to make any breakthrough in the recurrent gadget thefts, the station house officer has been showcaused.

According to the police, thieves entered the house of Vimal Kant Prasad, an employee of State Bank of India, in the small hours of Monday and decamped with a laptop, a Blackberry phone and another mobile handset.

“We live in a rented house on the first floor. I was awake till 3am on Monday. When I slept, the balcony door was open. The thieves entered the house scaling water pipes. They fled with electronic items. After taking out money from two wallets, they discarded them on the balcony,” said Sharad, Prasad’s son.

The thieves struck at a first floor flat at Himgiri Apartment in the same locality last week and decamped with a laptop.

“The criminals entered the first floor flat scaling the boundary wall,” said a resident of the apartment.

On April 15, criminals entered the house of a journalist through the balcony and fled with two laptops, a mobile phone and a gold ring. The estimated value of the lost items is around Rs 2 lakh.

According to the police records, three thefts took place in the area in February, four in March and four till date this month.

The modus operandi of the thieves seems to be similar in almost all the cases. They usually strike in early hours. The criminals sneak into the rooms on first floor through balcony if the door is not locked. The victims suspect the gang using some spray to make them unconscious.

The police are hopeful of recovering the stolen gadgets.

“The electronic shops have been given the names and models of the robbed electronic items. The police will be tipped-off if thieves try to sell off the stolen items,” an officer of SK Puri police station said.
