Patna, Dec. 31: Director-general of police Neel Mani has listed five priorities for the force in the new year:

Kidnapping

The state police headquarters is contemplating setting up a special operation group to neutralise professional gangs of kidnappers. The cases of kidnapping for ransom will be put on speedy trial and the culprits brought to book.

Naxalism

The supply of explosives to the Maoists will be checked. Officials are being asked to verify the quantity of explosives procured from ordinance factories by the stone crushing units in Naxalite-hit districts.

Diara crime

Border Security Force (BSF) boats are being procured for patrolling in river belts and diara land. High-speed boats will be provided to the district police with trained personnel. Inspector-general (headquarters) has been assigned to meet the BSF officials to procure high-speed boats at the earliest.

Community policing

Community policing has been started in Naxalite-hit areas to win the confidence of the people. The idea is to make the police people friendly in the new year.

Night patrolling

Night patrolling in Patna will be intensified. People and women in particular should feel safe, even while returning home late in the nights. The prevailing system of patrolling late in the night would be strengthened further in the new year.
