Four persons, including a woman, were arrested on Monday in connection with the rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl at Rajpur village in Rohtas district.
The body of the girl was recovered from the village, around 150km west of Patna, on Sunday morning.
“Bachcha Nut, Surendra Nut, Ajay Nut and Badori Devi, all residents of the village, have been arrested as they have been named as accused in this case,” a police officer at Rajpur police station told The Telegraph over phone.
According to the FIR lodged by the girl’s father, Badori Devi had called the girl on Saturday evening on the pretext of helping her in searching for a missing goat. The girl was seen with Badori and the three others, on the basis of which their names were included in the FIR.
When the police raided the house of Badori on Monday morning, they found bloodstains on her bed. Samples of it have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory.
“All the four arrested persons have been forwarded to judicial custody and the police would take them on remand if required,” said the police officer.
He said things would become clear once they got the post-mortem report, which is expected on Tuesday.
While the police are trying to ascertain the nature of the crime against the girl, they have also lodged an FIR against 300 people, who burnt a police vehicle while protesting against the incident on Sunday.
On Monday, a large number of people led by CPI-ML (Liberation) leaders staged a protest and blocked Rajpur-Dehri road for more than two hours. The blockade was removed after senior police officers pleaded with the protesters and explained the developments made in investigation of the case.
