Patna: Patna University as part of its centenary year celebrations organised an alumni meet at Patna Science College campus on Sunday.
The varsity, established in 1917, organised its alumni meet for the first time in 100 years.
Patna University vice-chancellor Rash Bihari Prasad Singh said: "It is a proud moment for us that Patna University is celebrating its alumni meet. The alumni of Patna University (who had studied) from 1943 to 2017 have been invited at the meet. Earlier, some colleges/departments and enthusiasts had organised alumni meets at smaller level but this is for the first time that the university is organising an alumni meet."
Around 400 alumni associated with the university as students, teachers and non-teaching employees participated at the meet.
The university also decided to constitute a 13-member core committee, who will prepare and develop an alumni association. The association would prepare the Patna University alumni association rules for its functioning. The committee members will work for expansion of the association by enrolling more members.
"There is a long list of former students of the university holding senior positions in government and private companies. But since there is no alumni association, the university has no record of them. The alumni association will work towards enrolling new members. The alumni association will have a bank account where potential alumni members can contribute financially for the development of the university," Singh said.
On the first meet, the university felicitated 10 former students based on their age and seniority.
Those who were felicitated included Ram Yatan Sinha, who had done his matriculation in 1943-44, Babban Lal of 1951-55 and others.
Rajyavardhan Sharma, a retired IPS officer and alumnus of Patna University, said: "Patna University has a glorious past with a long list of illustrious alumni. The varsity has seen ups and down. The university should work towards restoring its lost glory."
