Gaya, March 7: A fire broke out today among the bushes at Gaya International Airport for the third time since Thursday. The blaze was spotted around 11am.

The fire was some distance from the runway towards Gaya-Dobhi road. No flight was cancelled or delayed today but efforts were on to douse the fire at the time of filing this report.

Airport director Samar Kumar Biswas said: "Right now we are busy in fire-fighting efforts."

Biswas, Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials were monitoring the fire-fighting operation.

Friday's fire in the bushes, the second since Thursday evening, was more intense and spread along the runway owing to which two Air India flights, one domestic and the other international, were delayed for more than three hours.

Gaya district magistrate Sanjay Kumar Agarwal told The Telegraph: "I have asked AAI officials to clean the tall dry grass and bushes on the airport premises. These bushes, apart from being vulnerable to fire, are also dangerous from the safety point of view and should be cleaned at regular intervals."
