When a lawmaker turns dabang and takes the law into his hands, the lawkeepers must act.
An FIR has been lodged against BJP MLA Neeraj Kumar Bablu for allegedly thrashing and threatening a contractor in full public view at Birpur in Supaul district on Wednesday.
Police said Neeraj, who represents Chhatapur Assembly constituency in Supaul around 250km north-east of Patna, is among the three persons named as accused in the case that has been lodged.
Ten unidentified persons, said to be supporters of the lawmaker, are also under the scanner of the police for Wednesday's incident.
The police complaint was lodged with the Birpur police station based on the statement of the contractor, Bal Krishna Yadav.
The MLA was apparently unhappy with the contractor over electrification work in ward number 10 (Paswan Tola) in the sub-divisional town of Birpur.
On Wednesday, the lawmaker had summoned the contractor to the spot and rebuked him for allegedly demanding bribes from the local residents for providing electric connections to them.
The locality, inhabited by Mahadalits, had recently witnessed a major fire incident.
Supaul superintendent of police (SP) Kumar Ekle said the allegations against the legislator were being verified.
"It's true that a complaint has been lodged against the MLA, but action will be taken on the basis of evidences," the SP told The Telegraph over phone on Thursday.
BJP leaders of the district have lambasted the police for lodging a complaint against the legislator. Neeraj could not be contacted for comment.
