| Effigies of Union human resource minister Kapil Sibal in bulk outside the central office of Mahatma Gandhi Kendriya Vishwavidyalaya in Motihari on Wednesday. A large number of effigies of the Union minister were sent to 472 villages in East Champaran district by those opposing the Centre’s decision to set up the Central University of Bihar (CUB) in Gaya. The effigies will be consigned to flames during Holikadahan on Thursday, a day before Holi. It was part of a resolution taken by the Sangharsh Morcha, a pressure group, to intensify its agitation following Sibal’s recent announcement to shift the site of CUB from its proposed site in Motihari to Gaya. Chief minister Nitish Kumar had in 2008, announced that the varsity would be set up in Motihari . But despite an in-principle agreement between the Centre and the state government towards having CUB in East Champaran, the alleged refusal by the Site Selection Committee of the Union HRD ministry has triggered unrest across the district.
