Patna: The family of Navruna Chakravarty on Monday expressed happiness and hope over the arrest of six persons by CBI in the case of her mysterious disappearance and subsequent murder.
They also demanded a fair probe and result, saying it was their right to know what happened to their beloved daughter.
Talking to The Telegraph over phone, Navruna's father Atulya Chakravarty said: "These arrests have come after over four-and-half years of CBI probe. It could be just the beginning of the end of those who were behind the kidnapping and murder of my daughter. I just want justice for my daughter."
Atulya said he is hopeful that the CBI will be able to crack the case now and the events will not turn out to be like last year. In September 2017, CBI sleuths had arrested Rakesh Ranjan Sinha "Pappu", a ward councillor, but he got bail after 90 days of incarceration as no chargesheet was submitted.
"A couple of those arrested by the CBI this time figure in the list of 11 suspects that I have submitted in the Supreme Court. Basically, my daughter became a victim of a clash between two land mafia or syndicates for my property. A few police officials gave patronage to these syndicates," Atulya said.
He and his brothers share a palatial house spread over 7 cottahs of prime land in the heart of Muzaffarpur. The property is considered priceless in the congested area.
Navruna, who was 14 at the time of her disappearance and a student of St Xavier's School, had gone missing from her residence off Jawaharlal Nehru Road on the night of September 18, 2012. This happened at a time when her family was considering to sell their ancestral property.
The rods in her ground floor window were found wrenched off and her father, a former representative of a pharmaceutical company, lodged an FIR with Muzaffarpur town police station. Her decomposed dead body was found from the drain outside her house on November 26, 2012, while municipal corporation workers were cleaning it.
The case was handed over to the CBI and after much delay, the Supreme Court has fixed September 15, 2018, as the date to complete the investigations. "We are just leaning on the Supreme Court as the last resort. Let us see what happens," Atulya said.
