For some of us, he is a strict disciplinarian, for others a buddy. We like to disagree with him, fight with him and rebel against him. We hate the restrictions he puts on our freedom, we detest his habit of being always right. Yet none of us can do without the man who guards us like a mountain, supports us like a tree allowing a climber to take the help of its branches. He is our father. The Telegraph asks some of its young readers what special gestures they came up with to show their love for their Daddy cool this Father’s Day

MY TAKE

Dreams & success…

The world is your canvas,
You are the artist,
Your talent is your brush,
Paint your life.

Fly to your dreams,
The world stands with
open arms,
Ready to welcome you,
To take you in its folds.

Fear not:
For destiny has scripted your success.
It has carved a path for you,
So, spread out your wings
And test the sky,
Don’t be afraid, give it a try.

Opportunities do not come knocking everyday,
So, grab them,
And armed with your devotion and diligence,
March out to the world,
And paint the world in your colours.

Self-confidence for success is a must,
You stand to gain nothing
If you don’t trust yourself.
So, trust yourself to
bounce back
If you fall down.
For this, is the stuff champions are made of.

Another instrument for your success
Is your own courage.
The strength to stand up
for what is right,
For what you believe in,
For it is when you
learn courage,
Do you harbour success.

The roots of hard work
are bitter
But the fruits are sweet,
And to reap those fruits
You must learn to sow
the right seed,
The seeds of patience,
of toil and of love

Dream ,dream and dream,
Your dreams are the
breath of life,
They are your true identity,
They are the whiff
of fresh air
The fragrance of
musk rose blossoms
Which gives meaning
to your life,
And to you.

My father has always helped and encouraged me in all spheres of life whether it is studies or extracurricular activities. He has always stood by me at times of success and failure. His compromises and sacrifices cannot be ignored. He has made my life beautiful.
I could not do much for him this Father’s Day because of the rain. Finally, I decided to cook dinner for him. This was the first time that I cooked and he ate it with a smile. No matter what we do for our parents, it is always less than what they do for us

Divya Prakash
Class XII
Radiant International School
Father: Krishna Kumar

When I was in Class III in Welham Boys’ School, Dehradun, I had a tumour in my stomach. It had to be removed through a surgery. As a result of that, I missed school throughout the year. When I recovered, no one in my family wanted me to go back to the boarding school. My father still sent me back. This gave me immense self-confidence. My father told me: “No matter what has happened to you or what will happen to you, just remember you are strong inside.”
Prakash did not do anything special on Father’s Day. He did not bring gifts or cakes because he believes money cannot buy happiness

I love my father more than anyone else. He guides all my decisions. Since I am his eldest daughter, my father considers me to be his son. He never regrets not having a son.
This was the first time I presented him gifts on Father’s Day. I composed a poem to make him feel how special he is for me. I also made him a card and got his favourite chocolates

My father is like God to me. I can never refuse to do anything he asks me to. I can never forget the circumstances under which my father supported my education. He owns a small medicine shop in Maner but he did everything to ensure a happy childhood for me and my two siblings. If he says no to something, I cannot continue with it.
This year, I called him on Father’s Day and asked him what gift he wanted. He did not want anything for himself. Instead, he asked me to take the entrance exams for medicine. This year I had taken the entrance for dental. Next year, I’ll do what my father has asked me to.

STAR SPOT

Prashant Class X passout
Sherwood School, Patna Budding cricketer…

Prashant (13) has won many prizes in state-level cricket tournaments. In December 2007,
Prashant won the Man of the Match award in Under-13 SIS Cup. In 2009, he received best bowler award in the Under-13 CAB Challengers’ Trophy. He won three more Man of the Match awards in Und-er-16 tournament, Sukh-dev Narayan Cricket tournament and Sardar Patel Cricket Tourname-nt, all organised in 2011.

Trendsetter…
Is Prashant among his peers. He has been playing cricket since he was 10-year-old. Prashant began learning the sport at Cricket Academy of Bihar. He initially trained under batsman Ajit Mishra and later on went to Rakesh Nandan, a junior India player, for further training.

Inspiration…
For Prashant is medium pacer Praveen Kumar, who is presently playing in the Test series in West Indies. Prashant feels Praveen is the best swing bowler in India.

Right direction…
To Prashant was shown by Arun Sinha, secretary of Patna District Cricket Association, who recognised his talent and encouraged him.

Opportunities…
Are very little for budding cricketers in Bihar, feels Prashant. He wants a proper Bihar Ranji team where enthusiasts like him can try their luck. Prashant says if that happens, talented players from the state will not have to go out to make a career.

World Cup team…
is what Prashant wants to be a part of. He wants to become an international cricket player and bring laurels to the country. He also aspires to become a software engineer.
