Patna, July 31: Central University of Bihar (CUB) does not have a permanent home but that is no discouragement as far as quality control is concerned. The varsity, for the first time since its inception in 2009, has selected 11 regular faculty members.
The new teachers, who would be appointed soon, would teach development studies, computers, environment science, mathematics and statistics. Till now, the CUB had only two regular teachers — R.K. Sinha for environment science and D. Banerjee for development science. They had joined the university on invitation.
Mohammed Nehal, the registrar of CUB, said: “We got around 700 applications from all over the country and outside. The selection committee finally chose these 11 people.”
Nehal also said the selection of the faculty members was done after all the applications received were processed according to the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The advertisement for the posts was published in February this year. From March-end, the university started to receive applications. The interview was conducted between July 15 and July 28.
Nehal said: “The selection committee followed the norms of the UGC. The seven-member committee comprised three subject experts, a dean, an observer appointed by the central government and a nominee of the President of India. The committee was headed by the vice-chancellor of the university.”
Apart from the regular faculty, the university has also chosen three part-time teachers for the newly introduced subjects — bio-informatics, communication and media studies, and counselling psychology.
Orientation
CUB will organise an orientation programme for its new batch of students on August 1. The classes for the new academic session would start the next day.
