The delay in Raj Bhavan’s nod to various proposals concerning Patna University (PU) has put the careers of postgraduate students at stake.
The varsity administration is finding it difficult to conduct end-term examinations of the second semester owing to the chancellor office’s delay in approving the revised semester regulations.
According to varsity sources, the second semester end-term examination is held towards end-May or the first week of June. More than two months have passed but the examination is yet to start. The students got a breather last week when Raj Bhavan gave its approval, albeit a delayed one, for changes in the revised semester system.
PU vice-chancellor A.K. Sinha said: “A few days ago, Raj Bhavan gave its approval for the revised semester system. Now, it has given the go-ahead for the second semester end-term examination.” But Sinha declined specifying any deadline for conducting the test.
Kishan Kumar, a second semester student of geology, said: “By this time, the second semester end-term examination should have been over and the third semester classes should have begun. The delay is likely to affect third and fourth semester studies.”
Kishan added: “Even if the university releases the second-year end-term examination schedule now, it will take at least a month to complete the process and third semester classes cannot begin before the first week of September. The delay would burden us with third and fourth semester studies besides our preparation for various competitive tests.”
A PU teacher said: “The academic calendar mandates the completion of the second semester end-term examination by the first week of June with classes for the third semester starting from mid-July.”
